Ladies and gents, we need to have a talk about sex! Are you using vegan birth control methods and having vegan sex?
The bad news is that if you don't want to support animal cruelty or use anything containing animal products then you can no longer take any birth control pills. For the terrible history on the pill.
The good news however, is that there are a number of contraceptive devices and methods that you can use which are effective, safe, vegan and not tested on animals!
-
IUD's (Intrauterine Device):
- Paragard is the only 100% hormone free IUD, 99% effective, made from copper, and can be used for up to 10 years. However it has not been certified cruelty free.
- There are a number of other IUD devices but they all contain hormones which is immediately raises a red flag. It has proven near impossible to find out exactly where and what all the ingredients are and therefore hormonal IUD's are not vegan nor are they cruelty free.
-
Condoms:
The condoms below are certified vegan and cruelty free!
- Glyde
- Durex Featherlite Ultra, Deluxe and Avanti Ultima
- Sir Richard's
- L.
-
Other contraceptive methods:
- FemCap is hormone free but not certified vegan or cruelty free. It is 92% effective and reusable for up to 1-2 years, latex free.
- Sterilization is a permanent procedure for both women and men so this is the best way to go if you have no desires for having your own children. Remember that if you do want kids, why not adopt because there are thousands of children with no parents!
